The Tory party has been replaced by a PR agenda

26 Jun 2007 - JG

It is no secret that I rate the Tories chances of winning the next election, on current form, at next to zero.  It seems Quentin Davies MP for Grantham feels the same.  He has defected from the Conservatives to Labour via an open letter to David Cameron.  Ironic, maybe, that Grantham was the birthplace of Baroness Thatcher.  In his letter he stated that the Conservative party "-appears to me to have ceased collectively to believe in anything, or to stand for anything-".

He went on "-It has no bedrock. It exists on shifting sands. A sense of mission has been replaced by a PR agenda-."  It may be a little premature to ask the question that Kerron Cross has: - "-Will the birthplace of modern (Thatcherite) Conservativism also mark the beginning death of it?-" but it just highlights the discontent felt by the Tories and if they are not careful and take a rapid change of direction towards content rather than PR and mimicking Labour, there is a danger the electorate will leave them in their droves once and for all.
